Digital Image Manipulation
  Upon successful completion of this course, the student should be able to:
  1. Develop a concept.
  2. Apply principles of composition and layout.
  3. Apply principles of color theory.
    1. Apply color theory in the scanning, manipulating, and outputting of imagery.
    2. Compare and contrast additive and subtractive color theory.
  4. Identify and define which color theories apply to different input/output devices.
  5. Understand the basic functions of the computer and whatever peripherals and software are appropriate to this course of study.
  6. Understand color correction and photo retouching as well as the ability to decide which software function is applicable to a given situation.
  7. Use image manipulation software.
    1. Describe and apply the major steps in the "imaging chain"
    2. Use a digital camera to capture images for use in a raster based computer application
    3. Produce B&W and/or color illustrations
    4. Use tools, menus, and keyboard commands to perform complex image selection techniques
    5. Control image characteristics (size, mode, dpi, etc.)
    6. Select/apply filters and layers using appropriate menus, tools, and commands
    7. Prepare imagery for proofing and/or final outputting at a service bureau or other supplier
    8. Save documents using the appropriate specialized file formats
    9. Use layers, channels, and filters to achieve special effects.
