Digital Illustration
  Upon successful completion of this course, the student should be able to:
  1. Operate illustration programs. Demonstrate basic-to-intermediate drawing techniques for vector image illustration software. Demonstrate basic file management techniques for vector image illustration software.
  2. Use vector-based illustrations and apply them. Discuss opportunities and challenges associated with vector images. Discuss opportunities and challenges associated with raster images. Identify and discuss the various types of illustration software used by professional illustrators. Identify and discuss the types of illustration created using vector-based illustration software.
  3. Translate ideas into illustrations. Apply the design process in the development of illustrations for prospective clients. Apply knowledge of color theory to support illustrative concepts.
  4. Create client-ready thumbnails. Demonstrate translation of traditional media rough thumbnail sketches to client-ready thumbnails presented in digital file format.
  5. Produce timely effective layouts that will meet set deadlines. Demonstrate refinement of client-ready thumbnails to achieve finished digital illustrations. Demonstrate understanding of the color models and color systems associated with screen-based and printed images. Demonstrate application of finished digital illustrations to fulfill client needs.
  6. Produce industry-standard illustrations that are ready for film. Demonstrate understanding of the various file formats and file name extensions associated with raster and vector images. Demonstrate understanding of electronic pre-press file options for output Produce professional-quality demonstration of successful illustrations for use in screen-based or flat art portfolio.
